That might be spreadsheets, online personal finance software, or maybe you go super old school with pencil and paper– just do what works for you. I am a big believer in the fact that you have to take your finances into your own hands.
If you’ve set up your own spreadsheet or use any number of the Excel budget templates you can find online, that’s awesome. If I had to guess why so many are using Excel budgets, it’s probably for the convenience of not having to log in to a website and/or not really wanting to share bank account information that’s required for many of the online services. I’m not sure why this surprised me as much as it did, but I guess I just thought that most millennials were using the same kind of online budgeting tools that I’m using. One of the most interesting things I’ve noticed since I started running M$M has been the large number of readers who actually use Excel spreadsheets to create their budgets.
